DES MOINES – State Treasurer Roby Smith is reminding Iowans to register for the College Savings Month $5,290 account contribution giveaway from ISave 529™, formerly College Savings Iowa®. “Given the increasing costs associated with all forms of education, ISave 529 offers families a way to save for their children’s future,” said Smith. “To help, we’re giving one Iowa family a $5,290 account contribution to invest in their child’s dream – that’s enough for a full year’s tuition at a community college in Iowa!” Visit Iowa529Contest.com to register before the September 30 deadline.
Celebrated each September, College Savings Month raises awareness of saving early for future college-education costs. Anyone – parents, grandparents, friends and relatives – can invest in an ISave 529 account on behalf of a loved one. Earnings grow federally tax-deferred, and qualified withdrawals are tax free. Iowa taxpayers saving with the Plan can deduct up to $5,500 in contributions per Beneficiary account from their 2024 state income taxes.
“Creating a plan and making regular contributions to your children’s education savings can go a long way towards their success,” concluded Smith. “ISave 529 can help you get them from here to anywhere.” Money invested in ISave 529 can be used to pay for tuition, room and board, computers, textbooks and more at any eligible education institution in the U.S. or abroad. In addition to higher-education expenses, up to $10,000 per year per Beneficiary can also be used to pay for tuition at an accredited K-12 private school.
