DES MOINES – State Treasurer Roby Smith announces Tasaria and Margaret each won a $5,290 College Savings Iowa 529 plan contribution. “Offering giveaways to boost or start a child’s College Savings Iowa account is one of the most joyful parts of my job as Treasurer,” Smith said. “Being able to provide this to Tasaria and Margaret is no exception. When the time comes, this money will help them achieve their dreams – no matter what educational path they take.”
College Savings Iowa helps families save money for qualified education expenses like tuition, room and board, computers and textbooks at any eligible higher-education institution in the U.S. or abroad. This includes colleges, universities, trade schools and apprenticeship programs. Additionally, up to $10,000 per year per student can be withdrawn from a College Savings Iowa account to pay for tuition expenses in connection with enrollment at a K-12 institution.
Charles Kilpatrick, one of the winning entrants and Tasaria’s grandfather, shared his experience saving with the Plan. “College Savings Iowa has allowed us an easy, efficient and safe manner to invest in our five grandchildren’s education. Any questions we’ve had throughout the years have been graciously answered by competent and helpful personnel. We trust this savings method to further our grandchildren’s future goals! A bonus is the tax break for Iowans!”
